Series 16 is built into U-clevis and radially tight hydraulic cylinders. The flat electronics housing sits in the cylinder for position feedback. Choose 160 voltage, 161 current, or 162 SSI.

Product Overview

Series 16 inserts the rod from the cylinder cap into the piston-rod bore; the magnet ring moves with the piston and only the flat housing is outside. Cap Ø18G7 (machine Ø18F7), rod Ø10, piston-rod bore ≥12.7 mm, 350 bar working / 530 bar peak.

Electrical outputs: 160 / 161 analogue, 162 SSI. Specs and the long drawings below switch with the output. Mechanical mounting is shared.

Operating Principle

Non-contact magnetostrictive absolute position: a current pulse meets the piston magnet, a torsion wave returns, and time of flight becomes position. 160 / 161 convert that to voltage or current; 162 encodes binary or Gray and sends SSI over RS422 on a 7-pin D70.

Installation Precautions

  • Series 16 is designed for installation inside hydraulic cylinders. The cylinder manufacturer must machine the mounting cavity and guide during cylinder production; never modify a finished cylinder.
  • Piston-rod bore ≥12.7 mm (Ø10 rod); cylinder-cap bore Ø18G7 (machine Ø18F7). 350 bar working / 530 bar peak — do not reuse Series 17’s 600 bar peak or M18×1.5 threaded hole.
  • The electronics housing is a slim design; avoid crushing the enclosure during installation. Tighten the flange to the torque specified in the manual — over-tightening will damage the waveguide tube.
  • On 162 SSI, match binary/Gray, data length and resolution with the controller; minimum clock interval 48 μs. IP67 applies when the D70 plug is fully seated.
  • Built-in installation demands high cleanliness. Keep the assembly area dust-free to prevent metal swarf entering the waveguide area.
  • Load and supply requirements for the analog output version are the same as for the general-purpose type; note the single-point shield grounding.
  • Cylinder-cap machining: Ø18G7 / machine Ø18F7, lead-in 15°±1° / 45°±5°, electronics housing about 79 mm OD, bolt circle 64 mm, 6ר6.4 holes, rod-end blind zone about 63.5 mm.

Series 16 is a cylinder built-in type, usually supplied together with the complete cylinder or integrated by the cylinder manufacturer. The price depends on the measuring range, the electronics housing version (standard / slim), the output (160 voltage / 161 current / 162 SSI) and whether a custom flange is included.
