Series 19 D-Type split magnetostrictive displacement sensor
Split design with separate sensor head and waveguide tube
The D-type split design completely separates the sensor head (electronics housing) from the waveguide (measuring unit), connected by a flexible or rigid extension tube. It is especially suitable where installation space is extremely limited, the electronics housing must be located remotely, or the measuring point is difficult to access. The sensor head can be mounted flexibly where wiring and maintenance are convenient, while the waveguide reaches directly into the measured area. The externally connected electronics head is linked to the sensing rod by a cable extension on the underside of the junction plate. IP67 protection.
Product Overview
The D-Type split version is an innovative solution within Series 19 specifically for extreme installation space constraints. The sensor head (electronics housing) is completely separated from the waveguide tube (measuring element), connected by a flexible or rigid extension tube.
This design is particularly suitable for: installation space that is extremely limited (such as narrow cylinders with both ports at one end), situations where the electronics housing must be located away from high temperature / radiation / vibration areas, or where the measuring point is in a hard-to-reach depth. The sensor head can be mounted flexibly where wiring and routine maintenance are convenient, while the waveguide reaches directly into the measured area to perform the measurement.
The waveguide consists of a tightly sealed and protected pressure-resistant stainless steel tube, and the whole sensor is installed into the cylinder through a live bore. The external electronics head is connected to the sensor rod via a cable extension on the underside of the junction plate, giving a high degree of installation flexibility.
Operating Principle
The D-type measuring principle is exactly the same as a standard magnetostrictive sensor; the difference is the separated mechanical design. The waveguide (including the position magnet guide track) is sealed inside a slim pressure-resistant stainless steel protective tube, which can pass directly through narrow or irregular installation channels into the measured area. The electronics housing (sensor head) is installed further away where wiring and observation are convenient, and the two are connected by a shielded extension cable. The electronics housing sends current pulses through the cable to the excitation coil at the waveguide end and receives the returning detection signal - the physical length of the measuring chain increases but the measuring principle is unchanged.

Installation Precautions
- 19D is a split type: the sensor head is separated from the waveguide tube. Ensure correct mechanical alignment and secure fixing of both parts.
- Connections between separated parts must be made according to specification to avoid signal interruption or seal failure caused by pulling.
- Other requirements follow the Series 19 process version installation specification; pay attention to connector protection.
- The ring magnet must not touch the sensor rod; a non-contact gap must be maintained.
- For built-in cylinder installation, piston-rod bore ≥12.7 mm (Ø10 rod). Series 19 in-cylinder is 300 bar working / 600 bar peak — never exceed that series peak.
- Protect the sensor rod against wear.
Pricing Notes
The 19D split structure facilitates special installations. The price depends on the measuring range, waveguide length, output signal and split component configuration. Please provide the installation space and routing method so we can provide a quotation.
