Series 19F flexible long-stroke magnetostrictive displacement sensor
Optimised for ultra-long stroke with flexible waveguide tube
Series 19F is optimised for very long stroke applications, using an innovative structure in which the waveguide is wrapped in a flexible PTFE (Teflon) protective tube. The sensing element is encapsulated inside the PTFE tube, achieving a high anti-corrosion standard. When a customer faces an urgent replacement, the Series 19F can be delivered to site quickly and economically, letting production resume in the shortest possible time. A reinforced waveguide design and optimised signal processing algorithms maintain high accuracy and stability even over strokes of several metres. Typical applications include position control (hopper stroke detection), rolling mill roll gap adjustment, water gate opening measurement and stacker-reclaimer positioning - heavy equipment requiring wide-range position detection. Measuring range up to 7600 mm.
Product Overview
Series 19F is an innovative flexible product developed to solve the transport and application problems of extra-long stroke displacement sensors. Conventional sensors with extra-long strokes (>3 m) are easily damaged by bending moments during transport, and repair or replacement takes a long time and costs a lot.
The 19F uses a completely new design in which the waveguide is wrapped in a flexible PTFE (Teflon) protective tube - the sensor can be coiled for transport like a cable and unrolled for use on site. The PTFE tube provides excellent chemical corrosion resistance, suiting corrosive environments such as chemical plants. When a customer's production line goes down because of a sensor failure, the 19F can be shipped quickly and replaced in the shortest possible time, minimising production loss.
A reinforced waveguide design and optimised signal processing algorithms ensure high accuracy (0.005%) and high stability even over extra-long strokes of several metres. Typical applications include position control, roll gap adjustment on rolling mills, water gate opening detection and stacker-reclaimer positioning - heavy equipment requiring position detection over a wide range.
Operating Principle
The core innovation of the 19F is replacing the conventional rigid aluminium profile housing with a flexible PTFE (Teflon) protective tube around the waveguide. Inside the PTFE tube the waveguide can be bent and coiled (subject to a minimum bend radius), so the sensor can be shipped on a reel - greatly reducing transport damage risk and logistics cost for very long stroke sensors. The measuring principle is unchanged: the external magnet slides along the outside of the PTFE tube, triggering the magnetostrictive effect in the waveguide inside, and the electronics module detects the strain wave and outputs the position signal. The PTFE tube also provides excellent chemical corrosion resistance.

Installation Precautions
- 19F uses a flexible waveguide that can be coiled for transport. Install it following the recommended bending radius; never bend it below the minimum bending radius.
- Lay the flexible tube smoothly along the measured path and secure it, avoiding twisting and sharp bends.
- The magnet ring slides along the flexible tube, ensuring close contact and a uniform gap.
- Suited to extra-long strokes. Pay attention to tensioning and support to prevent measuring errors caused by slack.
- 19F must be installed inside a non-ferromagnetic protective conduit (copper / stainless steel / non-metallic tube).
- The ring magnet must not touch the flexible tube / rod, ensuring non-contact measurement.
- Head-end dead band: 50 mm for strokes < 8000 mm and 130 mm for strokes > 8000 mm. Allow for this when selecting and installing the sensor.
- Protect the sensor rod against wear.
- With a 10 mm ID flange: guide-tube OD <10 mm, ID >8 mm; with a 12.7 mm ID flange: OD <12.7 mm, ID >8.5 mm.
- Guide-tube length: stroke <8000 mm → stroke + 150 mm; stroke >8000 mm → stroke + 230 mm.
Pricing Notes
19F is a dedicated flexible extra-long-stroke version. The price depends mainly on the flexible waveguide length, the stroke and the output signal; extra-long ranges are built to order. Please provide the actual stroke and the routing method so we can work out a quotation.
